Brazilian education company Inspira Mudança has hired Fialho Salles Advogados to acquire two schools and a uniform company in the northern state of Maranhão.

The target companies relied on Azevedo Sette Advogados.

The deal closed on 6 February for a confidential amount.

The acquired businesses include two schools – Jardim Escola Crescimento and Bacelar Educação Infantil Pré-Escola e Fundamental – and school uniform company Castro Material Escolar e Uniformes. All three are headquartered in the city of São Luís in the state of Maranhão.

Inspira Mudança is the holding group of Rio de Janeiro-headquartered education network Inspira Rede de Educadores. Through the acquisition, the target groups enter Inspira’s network of nearly 100 schools across Brazil – attended by some 60,000 students. Inspira provides a standardised network aimed at ensuring high quality education at Brazilian schools.

The acquisition is expected to facilitate the expansion of the Jardim Escola Crescimento and Bacelar Educação schools, while providing added investment in education facilities there. Joining the network is also expected to enhance management at the two schools.

Transactions in Brazil’s education sector occur frequently. At the end of 2022, Brazilian education group Vitru made two private shares offerings worth a combined US$59 million, handing investor Crescera Capital new equity in the company. This came shortly after US private equity group KKR divested shares in Latin American-focused university operator Laureate Education through a US$309 million secondary share offering.
