Brazil’s Azevedo Sette Advogados has strengthened its M&A offering by hiring a new partner to its São Paulo office

André de Godoy Fernandes, 52, joined the firm’s partnership on 18 October. The Highly Recommended firm now counts a total of 46 partners.

Fernandes brings over 25 years of experience in the corporate area. He concentrates his practice on M&A deals, joint ventures and foreign investment with a particular focus on the agribusiness, health and technology sectors. The newly minted partner made the move after a six-year stint as a partner at Mattos Engelberg Echenique Advogados. That followed on from an 11-year tenure in the corporate partnership of Barretto Ferreira e Brancher.

“We are certain that André will contribute in a truly relevant way to the sustained growth of the firm,” says Luiz Sette, Azevedo Sette’s managing partner. Sette mentions that the hire will meet an increased demand for M&A and corporate restructuring work that the firm has seen lately. Azevedo Sette has plans to further expand its corporate group by adding expertise in the venture capital and private equity sectors in the future, the managing partner revealed.

The firm is best known for its M&A, administrative law, tax and mining practices. It last re-stocked its corporate and intellectual property practices at the start of 2022, when it promoted two partners in those areas. Before that, it had added to the M&A group by hiring a partner from local firm Portela, Lima, Lobato & Colen Advogados in August. The firm has featured on multiple big-ticket transactions in recent times. Last month, it helped Brazilian conglomerate Andrade Gutierrez divest a stake in local infrastructure group CCR for US$760 million. In another multi-billion transaction, it helped mining giant Vale sell US$1.2 billion worth of mining assets to Brazil’s J&F Investimentos in April.
