ICANN announces new guidelines on GDPR compliance


The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the European Data Protection Board have discussed the impacts of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on the WHOIS service. The current specifications of the domain registration services require that third parties have access to the information on registered domain name holders, such as name, contact, expiration date, etc., which meets the new data protection rules of the European Union, as such data are considered personal data.
