Azevedo Sette Advogados has hired an associate from Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados to boost its corporate M&A practice. Alexandre Lins Morato, 40, brings the firm’s partner count to 36, a third of whom serve in the corporate M&A practice.
M&A head partner Luis Sette welcomes Morato into the team. “His addition continues to enable us to offer our clients the full benefit of our integrated corporate platform from our São Paulo office and it will increase our ability for high-profile cross-border transactions,” he says.
Morato notes that the opportunity to join the firm’s partnership arose as a result of the Bank of America Merrill Lynch assistant general counsel recommending him as a potential partner to Sette. The firm carries out M&A and banking and finance operations in partnership with the bank. “I was very happy to be invited to join the firm as partner, so it was not a tough decision,” Morato affirms.
Morato already has nearly eight years of partnership experience, having been partner at full-service firm Araújo e Policastro Advogados between 2004 and 2012. He also served as an in-house counsel for telecoms company BCP before becoming an associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP’s New York office. Most recently, he was an associate at Cescon Barrieu since 2014. A spokesperson for Cescon Barrieu said: “Alexandre left [the firm] on good terms and we wish him continued success in Azevedo Sette.”
Azevedo Sette also boosted its insurance practice with a partner hire in April, recruiting Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados associate Jaqueline Suryan. Originally a mining specialist, Azevedo Sette also has a solid corporate team is in demand from foreign and domestic clients, with partners lending their expertise to M&A, infrastructure and real estate work .
