Brazil’s House Commission of Constitution and Justice on April 3 approved Constitutional Amendment Project (Projeto de Emenda Constitucional, or PEC) No. 233/2008 , which introduces several changes to Brazil’s tax system (the tax reform bill).

The commission approved PEC 233 with minor changes to the executive branch’s original bill. The House commission’s role was only to determine if any of the bill’s provisions violates the federal constitution.

PEC 233 now awaits the creation of a special House commission to thoroughly review the technical aspects of the tax reform bill.
