Azevedo Sette makes three partners after major hire

In the same month that it announced the arrival of prominent compliance partner Isabel Franco, Azevedo Sette Advogados has promoted three of its lawyers to partner, boosting its labour, litigation and private wealth departments.

All three new partners are based in São Paulo. Silvia Pellegrini, 44, is in the firm’s now four-partner labour department, which she co-leads with colleague Leila Azevedo Sette, who is based in Belo Horizonte along the other two partners. Pellegrini joined Azevedo Sette in 2014 after spending 17 years at Gouveia Vieira Advogados.

Litigator Fabricio Faggiani Dib, 35, strengthens the now nine-partner disputes team. Three partners are based in Belo Horizonte and are led by João Capanema. Partners Paulo Ciari and Ricardo Sette head the three partners team in São Paulo. The Brasília litigation practice, which also has three partners, is headed by Rodrigo Badaró de Castro. Before joining Azevedo Sette in 2007, Dib worked for Demarest Advogados.

Rafael Tavares Bassoli, 36, adds to the firm’s firepower in private wealth. The team now has six partners and is headed by Fernando Azevedo Sette. Bassoli heads the firm’s Italian desk. He spent four years at São Paulo firm Chiarottino e Nicoletti Advogados before re-joining Azevedo Sette in 2017 – he had previously worked at the firm for one year between 2011 and 2012. In the past, Bassoli has also worked for Dias Carneiro Advogados and Pinheiro Neto Advogados.

The promotions come after the Belo Horizonte-born firm lost a tax partner to Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados in São Paulo. More recently, the firm hired Franco, who joined Azevedo Sette together with another partner, boosting the firm’s anti-corruption practice.

But lateral hires are the exception rather than the norm at Azevedo Sette, with managing partner Luiz Sette saying he prefers organic growth to give development opportunities to lawyers that have grown up with the firm. Azevedo Sette also says the firm values long-term relationship with its clients, some of which it has maintained for three decades. The firm now has 37 partners and offices in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Goiânia, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
