Brazilian Highly Recommended firm Azevedo Sette Advogados has boosted its TMT, disputes and real estate areas by hiring partners from local firms FAS Advogados in cooperation with CMS, Chodraui e Tambuque Advogados and Lopes Domingues Advogados – at the same time that it added an ex-Velloza Advogados lawyer as a consultant.

The firm announced the arrival of Piero Sellan, Rodrigo Tambuque and Sérgio Mirisola Soda to the firm’s partnership on 17 January. Tambuque will lead Azevedo’s disputes area in São Paulo alongside Soda, who will also advise on real estate matters.

On the same day, it also announced the appointment of Cíntia Robin as a consultant, a position that recognises individuals with exceptional expertise in a particular practice area. In her new role, Robin will work alongside Azevedo’s partners in the wealth planning team on matters related to succession and international estate planning strategies.

The firm now counts 45 partners and 3 consultants.

Tambuque joins Azevedo Sette from Chodraui e Tambuque, which he co-founded in 2016. He brings extensive experience in corporate and civil litigation and advises on real estate matters, among others. Before that, the lawyer spent five years at now defunct Brazilian firm Negrão, Ferrari e Bumlai Chodraui.

Soda brings over 18 years of experience in civil liability, copyrights, class actions and real estate disputes. He spent the past nine years at Lopes Domingues Advogados, while his arrival at Azevedo Setto marks a return to the firm, having worked as an associate there between 2007 and 2015.

Joining the firm’s technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) practice, Sellan counts over two decades’ worth of experience in regulatory, contractual and competition matters. He joins Azevedo Sette after a year heading up the TMT practice at FAS Advogados. Previously, the lawyer held various in-house roles including at Brazilian fintech company Stone, Brazil’s Ministry of Finance as well as prominent telecommunications companies including Sky’s Brazilian operations, Vivo and Oi.

New consultant Robin brings over two decades’ worth of experience advising clients on complex tax issues and succession and estate planning strategies. Previously, Robin spent a stint at Brazilian tax-focused firm Velloza Advogados, where she held the role of wealth management associate, after having spent nine years as a consultant at local firm Natal & Manssur Sociedade de Advogados. Prior to this, the lawyer spent several years in tax-related roles in other Brazilian firms, including stints at local Elite firms TozziniFreire Advogados and BMA Advogados.

Luiz Sette, senior partner and head of Azevedo Settes corporate and M&A practice, said: “We are extremely happy to bring in new talent who will add value to our already competent team and share our commitment to excellent customer service. We are confident that the new partners and lawyers will significantly contribute to the sustained growth of Azevedo Sette."

Azevedo Sette is noted for its corporate and M&A, litigation, labour and intellectual property, among others. Founding partner Ordélio Azevedo Sette received Latin Lawyers Lifetime Achievement award in 2023. The outfit is one of the firms advising construction giant Vale in a US$23 billion compensation agreement for the victims of the 2015 Mariana dam disaster.
