CAMEX reduces to 0% the rate of import tax under the Ex-tariff regime

On August 17th, 2017, CAMEX published Resolution # 64/2017, reducing to 0% the ad valorem rate of import tax on importation of Capital Goods (BK) and Computer and Telecommunications Goods (BIT) under the Ex-tariff regime which are already in force as of the date of this publication.

The modified rate of 0% applies from August 17th, 2017 until the final term provided for each ex-tarifario in the Resolutions listed. The tax reduction enacted through CAMEX Resolution 64/2017 applies to all items under CAMEX Resolutions 06, 07, 08, 09, 21, 22, 33, 34, 47, 48, 55, 56, 63, 64, 81, 91, 107, 108, 113, 114, 133 and 134 of 2016 and under CAMEX Resolutions 18, 19, 27, 28, 37, 38, 50 and 51 of 2017.

This decision of CAMEX’s Management Executive Committee (GECEX) considered the deliberation of CAMEX’s Council of Ministers of July 25th, 2017, which approved the proposal for reduction to 0% of the import tax rate due on the purchase of BK and BIT goods, when requested under the Ex-tariff regime.

The Ex-tariff regime enables temporary reduction of the import tax rate applied to BK and BIT that do not have equivalent production in Brazil, encouraging investment in the productive sector. The import tax originally applied to Capital Goods is 14% and, to Computer and Telecommunications Goods, 16%. With the reduction implemented by CAMEX, the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC), responsible for analyzing requests under this Regime, hopes to attract investments through disencumbering productive endeavors.
