Brazilian law firms drive US$280 million medical lab IPO

17 February 2017 by Emilio Demetriou-Jones

Lefosse Advogados has helped Brazilian medical laboratory Instituto Hermes Pardini (IHP) raise 878 million reais (US$282 million) in an initial public offering.

Itaú BBA, Morgan Stanley, Bradesco BBI, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan were underwriters and turned to Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York and São Paulo and Brazil’s Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados.

Several IHP shareholders enlisted counsel for the offering; Áurea Maria Pardini hired Freitas Ferraz Capuruço Riccio Advogados and Rolim de Mello Advogados; Victor Cavalcanti Pardini and Regina Pardini turned to Azevedo Sette Advogados and Tavernard Advogados, while Brazilian investment manager Gávea Investimentos also retained Lefosse.

Brazil’s IPO market was stagnant for much of 2016, until medical diagnostic company Alliar raised US$243 million in November.

The offering closed on 10 February.
