Azevedo Sette promotes tax lawyer

Azevedo Sette Advogados has promoted a tax lawyer to the partnership, as the firm expects legislative reform and changes in the Brazilian economy to create new opportunities in the area.

Clarissa Cerqueira Viana Pereira, 35, was promoted on 1 January, taking the firm’s total partner count to 34. The firm has 285 lawyers in total. Pereira specialises in tax litigation and consulting and has represented prominent clients, including educational institution Foundation Getúlio Vargas, as well as working alongside law firms that focus on corporate law.

Tax litigation is one of Azevedo Sette’s strategic practice areas and Pereira, who joined the firm in 2013, has helped to increase the firm’s market share. “Besides her outstanding technical skills in tax matters, Clarissa is very engaged in the development of our tax team and she has made the difference for meeting our goals in the last years,” says partner Luis Ricardo Miraglia.

Miraglia says that Brazil’s complex tax system means there is no shortage of work for the practice, but he expects further opportunities as the government strives to push through a tax reform in 2018.
