Azevedo Sette adds real estate firepower in Brazil

Latin Lawyer 250 firm Azevedo Sette Advogados has strengthened its real estate practice by recruiting an in-house counsel as partner, only a month after it promoted a lawyer internally in the same area.

The firm announced 33-year-old Henrique Antonelli’s hire on 25 March, bringing its total partner count to 38. He is based in Belo Horizonte.

Antonelli focuses his real estate practice on project finance, complex transactions, due diligence and contractual matters.

Azevedo Sette partner Luis Ricardo Miraglia says Antonelli brings technical expertise and will help to develop the real estate practice further with his experience of complex transactions.

Like many industries, Brazils real estate sector has been affected by the covid-19 outbreak. When the current covid-19 pandemic hit, Antonelli explains, some of the largest real estate companies were preparing for a spike in demand. He thinks investors may put their plans on hold for now, but he still expects a prosperous end to the year and start to 2021 with a continued demand due to low interest rates.

The new partner joins from Brazilian real estate company Urba, where he had served as an in-house lawyer from 2018. Before that he worked at local firm Portela, Lima, Lobato e Colen Advogados and was previously in-house counsel at construction company Direcional Engenharia between 2012 and 2015. Antonelli has been a partner before, leading Gontijo Vivian, Antonelli e Takahashi - Sociedade de Advogados’ real estate practice between 2010 and 2012.

The hire comes only a month after the firm bolstered its real estate department by promoting a lawyer to partner in February. Azevedo Sette appointed a new corporate partner at the time too.

Azevedo Sette is respected for its capability in M&A and mining law and it also offers good labour, tax and litigation services.
